Wayne Smith - Sleng Teng LP
SKU: GREL91 OverviewDescription:
The original album from 1986 is now available again! "Sleng Teng"
made history for real and is the longplayer that turned Reggae
music upside down. Alongside the musicians Cleveland "Clevie"
Browne & Wycliffe "Steely" Johnson, the Super Power All-Stars
and Noel Davey, Wayne Smith started the digital age for jamaican
music, recorded and mixed by Prince Jammy who was later re-named to
King Jammy. The "Sleng Teng" riddim was created on a Casio MT-40
and some people say it is inspired amongst others by the riff from
Eddie Cochran's "Somethin' Else". It is one of the most sampled
tracks in Dancehall-Reggae and is as well used in tracks and
remixes by M.I.A., Robyn, Arcade Fire, The Prodigy, Cypress Hill
and many more. Wayne Smith (real name: Ian Smith) was born on
December 5th 1965 in Water House, Kingston, Jamaica. Sadly passed
away on monday 17th February 2014.
